Are you a master student passionate about social and environmental issues, and protecting the world’s rainforests by contributing to the fight against deforestation? Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) is one of Norway’s leading environmental organizations, dedicated to safeguarding the planet’s tropical rainforests while upholding the rights of Indigenous peoples and forest communities.
In the Deforestation-free Markets (DFM) team, we play a critical role in halting commercially driven deforestation and addressing associated human rights violations. We engage with businesses, financial institutions and international networks of civil society organizations to push for global markets to become sustainable, ethical, and free from deforestation-related risks.
About the Internship
The internship with the DFM team offers master’s students an opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with practical experience in sustainable supply chains, food systems, energy transition, finance, communications, or data analysis. As an intern, you will contribute to ongoing research and advocacy initiatives within one of Norway’s leading environmental organizations. The placement is intended as part of a formal master’s program.
Key tasks include
Communications: Support stakeholder outreach through targeted messaging on deforestation risks, market trends, policy shifts, and geopolitical developments. This could include, for example, contributing to our website or the DFM newsletter.
Project Support: Assist with international advocacy and campaign work. Possible tasks include identifying deforestation risks and solutions in global supply chains and investment portfolios, or contributing to data collection to strengthen our evidence-based approach
Research: Carry out independent research aligned with your field of study. Examples of potential topics are deforestation-linked commodities or illegal mining, with the work culminating in a report and presentation for staff and partners.
Practical Information
- Duration: Approximately 6-5 months, ending in June 2026.
- An internship agreement between the the University/faculty and RFN must be in arranged for.
- Location: At our Oslo office in Mariboes gate 8.
- Compensation: Unpaid, integrated into the student’s educational program.
- Working language: English.
Requirements
- Applicants should be enrolled at a Norwegian institution, studying a subject relevant to the DFM team, with an internship as part of their education. Relevant fields of study include ecological or environmental economics, sustainable finance, data analytics, communications, or social science disciplines concerned with human–environment interactions.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of Indonesian, Portuguese, French or Norwegian counts positively, but it is not a requirement.
- Some knowledge about rainforests, sustainable finance, forest-risk supply chains, food systems, energy transition, and/or international experience.
- Being able to work from the office in Oslo.
