Rainforest Foundation Norway seeks a Supply Chain Adviser based in Oslo
Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) is one of Europe’s leading organizations in the work to protect the world’s rainforests and strengthen the rights of indigenous peoples, in cooperation with indigenous and environmental organizations in Southeast Asia, Central Africa and the Amazon.
The rising demand for different commodities in the global market poses a significant threat to tropical forests, making this role critical.
We are seeking a dynamic and skilled person to join our team and develop our knowledge and expertise with a focus on agricultural supply chains. This position requires strategic engagement with the commercial sector and political oversight and the ability to acquire and present knowledge of supply chains.
The supply chain advisor will be responsible for one or more deforestation-risk commodities, knowledge about the supply chain and necessary corporate actions in the different sectors. The position is a full-time position.
Key responsibilities:
- Carry out complex assessments, research and analyses, and guide and support others in RFN on selected deforestation-risk commodities and supply chains.
- Engage in frequent external communication and facilitate how RFN conveys the results from research towards the commercial sector and do company engagements, and public at large.
- Develop policies and contribute to programs and processes relevant for selected deforestation-risk commodities and supply chains.
- Lead departmental projects, task forces and working groups, initiate and coordinate collaboration with external partners.
The list of key responsibilities is not exhaustive. Other tasks and responsibilities can be added, including tasks outside the described area of responsibility.
Qualifications, skills and experience
- Advanced knowledge in their area acquired through higher education (normally Masters-level) and/or relevant experience. Formal education can be compensated for with documented and relevant experience. Knowledge about forest risk commodities, deforestation and market dynamics is a strong asset. Specific knowledge of soft commodities and/or initiatives to halt commercially driven deforestation is valued.
- Knowledge and/or experience with working on company engagements, and how to communicate to successfully advocate for policy changes. Insight into the political context in one or several rainforest or end-market countries is an asset.
- Knowledge about corporate regulations and recommendations and how companies can implement policies that have an impact on nature and deforestation.
- Good collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to build and use networks for advocacy work.
- Ability to work independently with limited guidance from a manager.
- Language skills: Fluency in written and verbal English is required. The work language is English. Rainforest country languages such as Portuguese and Spanish are an asset, as well as knowledge of Norwegian.
- Personal attributes: detail-orientated, problem-solver, self-disciplined, dynamic and with initiative.
- Willing and able to travel when needed.
We can offer
- A permanent, 100% position.
